How our fees work
Depending on the case, we offer an hourly rate or a flat rate. We always prefer a flat rate if possible, such as in an uncontested divorce or name change.
We often get calls about free consultations. We obviously do not charge for you to call our office and inquire about our services. However, if you are serious about having your case reviewed by one of our attorneys, we schedule one to two hours for an in-depth review. We do not charge by the minute or hour, but usually only assess a flat fee of $200 if the potential client left the consultation equipped with more information than what they came in with.
Another reason you will find that experienced family court attorneys will charge a consultation fee is because consulting with one parent in a custody case, for example, conflicts us out of representing the other parent. Due to our experience in the community in family court cases, sometimes we are contacted by a parent who has no interest in filing a custody case, but simply wants to meet with us so that we cannot represent the other parent.
We cannot control what information other websites include about our consultation process, and apologize if anything you read online elsewhere reflects that we skimp through this very important process without a fee.
